The 2013 rates have skyrockted some ~25% or more across the board, so here we are partially subsidizing EMS Express Mail's very high cost, which starts well north of $40 and moves up based on a weight in a jiffy!.

The Dovo 'Shavette' is their brand of "barber razor", which is just something that allows you to use double-edge safety razor blades in the same manner that we straight razor folks use straight razors. Dovo also makes a specific single-edge razor blade just for these Shavette models, with a longer blade edge. If you're curious about how it feels to use a straight razor, these will get you half of the way there. They allow you to be the master of the blade's angle of incidence to the skin, something that has a limited range with safety razors-there might be a spot or two on your face where the best blade performance would occur with the blade nearly parallel or perpendicular to the skin, and the Shavette will give you that control. They don't allow you to be the boss over the blade's condition as you can be with a "real" straight razor, but you don't have any of the upkeep involved with using a regular straight, either. Each model comes with a #201003 red blade holder, which is the default mechanism that accepts a half of a regular "DE" blade (just snap the blade in two and it pops right in). The #201004 black blade holder accepts the Merkur 10-pack shavette "long" blades (product code #201014). The Shavette does the same thing as many other barber razors; holds a DE or single-edge blade taut for you to be the boss of. It is certainly far better made than the cheaper barber razors out there, a far more substantial thing, but to be fair I believe I could get a great shave with any of them (I'd just enjoy the experience much more with this one). |
