5.5″ long and weighing it at 4.8 ounces (139g), the Dovo #127-558 ‘HAPTIKOS’ (“fit to be touched”) is a beautiful oversized nail nipper with a broad-shouldered ‘flame’ cutting head shape that comes to a crisp point so that it can be used for ingrown nails as well as general pedicure work.
It is an ambidextrous tool, as fit to the left hand as it is to the right. It is easy to get a good grip, and the transfer of force to the cutting jaws is, because of the fulcrum being so close to the blade, at a huge advantage. You’ll hardly feel like you’re putting any tension in your hand when you squeeze it, both because of the high fulcrum ratio as well as because the broad surfaces of the metal in your palm so well distribute the pressure.
DOVO uses two different steels for their nippers; and ideal nipper has softer steel melded to harder steel at the cutting jaw, so that pressure can build before it is transferred to the nail. You can’t just use harder steel everwhere! That makes for a nipper that doesn’t work as well; the momentary gathering of the energy eventually applied to that nail is what separates this German tool from common stuff.
