Description

Dovo Elitaire Shears are our best-selling model among the modern style of razor sharp blades and hollow grinding.  The Elitaire is offered in 4.5″, 5.25″, 5.5″, and 6″ sizes.  However, this 5.25″ model 239546 has a slight offset between the two rings (the thumb ring is slightly closer to the joint of the scissor).  The remaining three Dovo Elitaire models sill in production all begin with product number 240-**6, and have perfectly equidistant rings (the “**” changes for the scissor’s length).

On Razor Sharp vs Corrugated Blades

Some old-school barbers prefer the tearing/serrated cutting action associated to Dovo’s Catch Cut and NTS-Solingen‘s Maylily or Ergo Silver Star offerings.  With a corrugated shear, one can catch and hold the hair as cut.

On the other hand, the serrated edge is a poor choice for fine hair, and it has much more friction during the scissor run (can tire your hand).  Thus, there are the shears which have two razor-edge blades and are hollow ground and honed upon the inner planes.   All Japanese and Korean shears, for example, use the style of two razor edges.

There is no right or wrong answer and many stylists have both types for different cuts or conditions of hair.  A razor edge is finer and lighter of action, and will wear down more quickly than a serrated edge.

Hollow Ground, Honed Inside

To decrease the friction during the scissor run, the Dovo Elitaire’s inner blade planes have been ground hollow.  Only the very edges of the internal portion of the blades is in contact, and that’s just as you’d want it.  Furthermore, the inside edge of each blade has been honed razor sharp to create cutting action both on the outside of the blades (as normal) and on the inside.   This makes for an especially fine scissor.

Requires Resharpening (After Years of Use)

Like a straight razor, the Dovo Elitaire will also eventually require maintenance more quickly than would the less-refined corrugated or wedge grind shears.   Normally a working professional can use the Dovo Elitaire daily for ~2yrs before require professional service; conversely, we routinely hear of Dovo Catch Cut shears not being re-sharpened in multiple decades.

Dovo’s Patended Micro Motion Bushing

The Dovo Elitaire features the best reason of all to choose a Dovo hairdressing scissor; their patented “Micro-Motion” oil-filled bearing for the center screw.    This PTFE-enabled spring-loaded pressure plate holds the center screw. The  scissor has a most responsive feel, and seems easier to start and finish action, so you can expect control of the very terminus of the cutting edge for trimming.

Standard 35° Cutting Angle

The Dovo Elitaire has a 35° cutting angle, which is Dovo’s standard on all their hollow-ground models (which also included “Senso Cut” and “Dovo Black”).

NO RETURNS, EXCHANGES, OR CLAIMS OF DEFECT ACCEPTED FOR ANY DOVO SHEARS.

This Dovo Elitaire shear comes with a 2-year guarantee against manufacturing defects, and you’ll need to contact Dovo to return to Germany for service if this arises.  We’ve never seen it occur (because they’re made as intended in the first place), but if your copy of Elitaire shears did turn out to have a defect in which Dovo (making hairdressing scissors prior the Cold War) agreed the item was defective, we’ll compensate you for your expenses of mailing to Germany (and Dovo will pay for your return shipping).

Don’t Fund Others’ Fraud, This Isn’t a Library!

“Shears Defect Claim Fraud” is a scourge within the professional hairdressing scissor market.  Professional hairdressers treat them like library books, just try and return until finding the one true love.   Ottoman Empire sultans were less particular about concubines than professional hairdressers are of their shears!  This is FRAUD, and the FRAUD is reflected in the much-too-high price you would pay.  Those ‘defective’ returned shears cannot be resold, lots of wasted postage/parcel, etc..

No Secretly-Used Shears Sold Here!!!

At this shop, however, 1) you will NEVER receive a shear used by anyone (let’s be honest, we all know that’s happening if you can return shears somewhere!), 2) you will NEVER be able to circumvent the policy to get your money back with the text that’s now assigned to the add-to-cart button itself, & 3) you’ll pay a lower price as you’re NEVER secretly subsidizing others’ fraud.  You’re getting an unused factory new Dovo Elitaire.

Germans Get Offended if Told their Non-Defective item’s Defective

After mailing many of these ‘defective’ pieces back to Dovo over the years and getting the unchanged shears along with a preprinted form letter stating “we have examined this item very carefully and find nothing out of specification“, we no longer humor this stuff.  There’s plenty of places you can buy these shears (and pay more, obviously! insert smirking emoji) if you’ wish to play the ‘defective-try-and-return’ card.  Amazon, eBay,…
