The Focus R21-10 Teflon is a conventionally-styled-insert-style barber razor with 304 (18/8) stainless steel head and handle, along with a robust ABS plastic shank and a metal blade insert.
At 43 grams, the R21-10 Teflon is the heaviest “Shavette” razor we carry that accepts conventional blades – substantially more weighty than Focus’ revolutionary all-aluminum ‘Slim Al’. Some like a razor lighter, some heavier. There’s no right or wrong answer.
Additionally, the R21 Teflon differs from all the other Focus shavette razors not just by the metal insert and Teflon finish, but also in that Focus consciously chose not to cover the blade edges with this model as they do on the other R21s and the Slim Al. You see, some Italian barbers are adamant that for the maximum edging control, you want this exposure. So Focus wants to sell a shavette razor to everyone regardless of their preference on this subjective matter (we feel at “TSS” that most home users would rather the blade corners covered up, but it is not a unanimous vote such as Bolt for fastest human).
While there are many, many “Shavette” razors like this one in the market, the R21 is one of the best engineered pieces you’ll meet if only you can live with the limitation that it solely accepts regular double-edge safety razor blades (or, stated more accurately, it accepts one half of a double edge safety razor blade…there’s some monstrous units out there which take the whole DE blade un-snapped). The Dovo original Shavettes, of course, accept the longer style blades unique to the Germans – and we have some very hardcore barber customers who insist on that length advantage no matter how much they charge for those blades. But most barbers, frugal a lot as they are, prefer a razor like this one, and it is about best in show among those that use an insert taking regular DE blades.
The Focus R21-10 Teflon is available in any color you like (so long as that color is black).
