“Handmade in France”
Made by hand (and uniquely so), the Thiers-Issard brand is, in this one opinion, the most hollow ground and flexible razor left in production today. They’ve produced straight razors for nearly 100 years in Thiers, France, with traditional methods confined to this most special of nations.
The “Smart” razor is a new creation from TI which features a beveled spine work, the blacksmith logo at the tang, and a modern scale from a material called JUMA, a synthetic resin made in a faux ivory motif here and with an innovative cutout near the pivot pin for better handling. Spiffy! Weight is approximately 49.6 grams.
The Smart razor is designated “275”, which means both the front and back are satin-matte polished. “275” = both sides satin-matte, “889” = front side brightly polished rear side satin-matte, “188” = both sides brightly polished and generally extra file jimps (the little ridges in the metal meant to aid in handling) on the top side of the tang.

The Superior Shave hones via a method best coined (by the old Thiers-Issard director) as “the opposite of tape“ where the hones’ geometries are catered to performance of the razor and to no other concern.
