Théophile Berthon Body Serum

Hubba hubba.  While Zartgefühl’s deeply-nourishing creams are unmatched in the combination of uber-rich emollient property without being greasy, there’s times in life when you’ll want silky moisture that feels as light as possible, emphasis on the light; perhaps you’re out for dine and drinks with wafer-thin clothes to take advantage of a balmy summer evening, thin finely tailored silk on top and translucent linen below.

The ‘body serums’ from Théophile Berthon are your solution here; produced in three different fragrances, they’re remarkably penetrative and dry to the touch shortly afterwards, much like their unmatched facial serum but for the body (and with the addition of fragrance/essential oils, which the facial serum does not contain).

Unfortunately, or fortunately (depending upon your perspective), their delicious odors are very short lived, being based upon natural essential oils.  You’ll get, for my nose, between 30mins and 2hrs of detection.  The first ~20-30mins are reasonably delightful if you enjoy a subtle sophisticated odor, but after dry-down you really have to be right up on the skin to detect it, for this nose (I’m not a German Shepherd).  The reason to buy these serums is not their scents, it is only the way they apply, so light and penetrative…for that part, they are certainly special, but I’ve been using the Red Almond one in my house reasonably regularly some ~7yrs now and I would not tell you that I have a strong association to memories from the scent.  It’s just wonderful stuff to put on the skin after a shower following a beach day.

I’ll characterize the Red Almond as a lightly sweet, creamy, unisex scent.  The Iris Powder has a fairly strong opening powdery note that I associate only to women.  The Garden of Hesperides one is a bit citrusy, or like the smell off a fresh cut apple, and it is an extremely short-lived odor; being citrus-heavy (which suffer in longevity in general) and an anti-FO, not much of a surprise here.  I don’t think Berthon was after a heavy odor profile with these.

100% made in France.   100ml glass bottles.
