“I’ve always loved traditional European cold-process soaps, which by their nature are difficult to produce and have a lot more overhead than hot-process soaps. Cold process soaps’ manner in which the soap’s moisturizing capacities feels within you rather than upon you have always been special to me. They’re like trying to get birds out of the trees, but we’ll always try to source new indie small French cold-process folks whenever possible, and perhaps best of all is that you’re quite unlikely to ever see them pop up on ‘The River of Fakes‘!” -jarrod@TSS
Here we have yet another cold process shaving soap, this one bereft of animal fats and given the distinctly French preference of some white clay in to the formulation. Usually, these are difficult to use soaps which reward in their own way; they’re not Stirling. Cold soaps for shaving are definitely not without their superfans, though, so if you march to your own beat perhaps take a flyer on a sample.
They do produce a refill-only and if we do alright selling these soaps, and more importantly don’t get all our potential profits destroyed by our great friends in the UPS brokerage house, I hope we’ll see them again in another shipment. You never know what kind of import bill they can come up with, though, and for a small producer like this and a small importation, they should have some discretion toward their power. We’ll see. We need a hit record so you sign a few unknowns and hope for the next Post Malone.
Note the presence of “potassium shea butterate”, “sodium shea butterate”, and “butyrospermum parkii butter” on the INCI label; the “butyrospermum parkii butter” is the unsaponified ‘superfat’ shea butter content, added *after* saponification of the alkaloids is completed, while the other two are *saponified* shea butter, which is a much more challenging piece of the puzzle. The higher up the list SSB is, the harder it is the make that soap, and the more costly. This soap’s first ingredient is saponified shea butter!
