Description
~3x8x1″ acrylic block, ~442g, made in the USA, for use to shape with the Jarrod plate or whatever reference shape you’ve got laying about, and then to affix with lapping film so that you can impose the shaped abrasive upon the razor or other cutting tool. I’ll shape and sell the shaped ones, but shaping is hard work, depending upon the shape.
Certainly facing this 3×8″ surface to the 9″ axis of the Jarrod plate you’re getting a tremendous whetstone, and putting in a good 3-4hrs hard labor, minimum. Shaping the other way, just under 1hr.
I have a cylindrical lapping plate, which only makes nice flat long-diameter cylindrical surfaces, that should be a ‘straightforward’ shaping experience with these rock-solid acrylic plates and an excellent basis for the very high grit PSA-backed diamond films.
I’d recommend silicon carbide based sandpaper for shaping, and to polish the surface you make to ~1000# fineness if it is acting as your lapping film basis. There are some excellent cheap sandpaper options, specified for grinding metal, a house brand one, at Home Depot which a buyer here has said to have found can do fast labor against acrylic.
