Russian Leather & Linen Strop

We’ve chosen an Solingen-made Herold strop of Russian-type calfhide leather with webbed white cotton rear linen component. No, it isn’t the biggest, but it works well, is made to a high standard, and appropriately priced for an attractive kit. The meaningful stropping area for the 185J strop in this straight razor kit measures 1.8×12″ (4.5x30cm).
White and Yellow Pastes
Next, the two pastes [white and yellow] included in this straight razor kit will maintain your strop for several years. Furthermore, the yellow-banded tube of leather fat should be applied sparingly if you’re in a humid area. If you live where it is quite dry, on the other hand, you’ll need a touch or two likely every week or so, just about as much as you’d use of lip balm. The white tube is to stop linen from “pilling” and you can slather on as much as you please…put too much in and it’ll just get squeegeed off by the razor.
Alum Stone & Styptic Pencil
Finally, after a shave you need some soothe and some protect. The alum stone supplied in this straight razor kit’s used after each shave for a gentle astringent. If you should happen to cut yourself, don’t fret; the included styptic pencil quickly seals any nicks. Both are made in France, and are the best in the world for what they do.
